‘Just Say When’ is a circular meditation on the comic possibilities of everyday routine. In a stripped down domestic space, ordinary actions gradually take on absurd proportions through repetition and excess. Alternately grotesque and banal, simple gestures like pouring coffee or putting on socks become explorations of reasonable limits and what happens when they are breached or joyfully disregarded. The initially mundane journey reaches a frenetic peak before cycling back to a relative state of calm. The soundtrack uses original field recordings to hint at emotional dimension, provide mysterious “foley,” and construct a dance beat out of baby sounds.
