We produced Normal Wash for “Kitchen Sink”, the sixth edition of Small Audio Art. Our exploration of the acoustic possibilities of dishwashing developed into an increasingly absurd ritualization, going through the motions without a practical purpose. In a call and response of gestures, we alternated improvised actions at the sink without discussing any shared goal or approach. The result of this unspoken interaction was a riff — at times comedic — on household sounds and the trope of dishwashing.
